IMPORTANCE OF THE FOUR SHRINES OF CHARDHAM

YAMUNOTRI DHAM – GODDESS GANGA

Does the name ring a bell? Read it. You guessed it right. The Yamuna!!
Yamunotri Dham is situated at the neck of the origin of the Yamuna River. The Yamuna, according to Hindu mythology is the sister of Yamraj. Yamraj had made a vow to his sister on Bhai Dhooj. He promised that anyone who bathes in the river Yamuna will not be taken to Yamlok, thus be freed from the bondage of the life-death cycle. The seat of this Goddess rests in the westernmost Garwal region in Uttarakhand.

GANGOTRI DHAM- GODDESS GANGA

The Gangotri Dham is located at the source of the Ganga River- Gomukh!!
Gangotri Dham is located 3200 meters above sea level. It narrated that King Bhagirath is the reason for River Ganga to come into her being. King Bhagirath meditated for a prolonged time. Ganga took life from Gangotri glacier and flowed to Gomukh. Gangotri Dham’s name derived from the Gangotri glacier. The stone on which King Bhagirath has meditated still lies near the Ganga temple in Gangotri.

KEDARNATH DHAM- LORD SHIVA

Kedarnath Dham is the most important shrine for Hindus. Which is ancient and revered. It’s the most important part of Chardham Yatra. Kedarnath Dham considered being one of the ‘Jyotirlingas’ of Lord Shiva. Jyotirlingas are symbolic to represent lit Lord Shiva’s shrine. Jyotirlingas knew as the ‘Radiance light of Lord Shiva’.

Another reason to be happy is that Kedarnath Dham is a Panch Kedar spot for devotees. The five places as the name signifies are Kalpeshwar, Tungnath, Madmaheshwar, and Rudranath shrines also visited by devotees.

BADRINATH DHAM – LORD VISHNU

Badrinath Dham situated on the left bank of the Alakananda River. Just like Kedarnath Dham, Badrinath Dham considered the most sacred shrine to visit as a part of the Chardham yatra. Badrinath Dham is the final destination for the devotees to BE. It is the place where Adi Shankaracharya; an 8th century AD saint is believed to have attained salvation and freed Himself from
the process of reincarnation. Most importantly, Badrinath Dham is the abode of Lord Vishnu who is the protector of the trinity- Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheswari.
