Pushkar Lake is one of the most known pilgrimage site located in the Ajmer district of Rajasthan. The Pushkar Lake is situated in Pushkar. This city, Pushkar dates its birth back to the 4th century BC. It’s said that God Brahma created the Pushkar Lake when the petals from this lotus flower accidentally fell here.
Pushkar Lake is surrounded by numerous temples, hills, valleys, and ghats. The circuit around the Pushkar Lake is enlightening both; socially and spiritually. The circuit around Lake Pushkar has 52 ghats. The entire view of the city, Pushkar takes you through streets that echo out their hawker rattles. The streets narrow down from any corner towards the Pushkar Lake. How beatific this site could be?
The Pushkar Lake is called ‘Tirtha Raj’ which means ‘king of all pilgrimage sites’. It’s narrated that no pilgrimage is said to be complete without taking a dip in the holy lake of Pushkar. There are more than 400 temples in Pushkar and the Pushkar city has a pious aura.
The lake is most busy during October and November which is said to be the most auspicious time as per the sacred texts. These two months arranges an annual fair called Pushkar Fair. The fair starts at the beginning of the month Kartik and ends at Kartik Purnima. The fair is filled with hues of colours, dance cattle fair, food and loads of competitions.
